When it became clear that the leaders of the Children of Flame intended to peacefully co-exist with the People of the River, the militant House Baern decided to form their own community in the mountains near the source of the Anar. The discovery of the Canandite gems, as well as small deposits of iron has allowed House Baern to maintain a high level of economic independence from the rest of the Valley and the Children.

In recent times, tensions within Jerrock have been running increasingly high. Never as integrated as the rest of the Valley, recent heads of House Baern have only increased the level of discrimination against the People. Mining has also become increasing dangerous as tunnels have broken into the natural caverns that riddle the Valley. The Canandite gems are highly valued by the Vangesh and House Baern has some of the best relations with the Vangesh of any group in the Valley.
